Back Pain Treatment – The Facts
If you have low back pain or just any type of back pain, your doctor has probably advised you to make a number of lifestyle changes, as well as prescribe you all sorts of different medications.
Lifestyle changes are indeed necessary, but what about all of these medications?
Each tablet you take will have a range of side effects, and you will need to take more medication to combat all the increasing side effects from all the different medications you are taking.
It is a never ending circle that just doesn’t end in a positive way.

You have pain in your back, you are told to rest, ice and take pain killers.
The pain doesn’t go away you then see your doctor again who then gives another diagnosis and sends you to physical therapist.
Who then does a variety of treatments which don’t help all that much, then the therapist suggests some stretching and strengthening, which doesn’t help.
You are then referred for an MRI that reveals everything is ok, you are referred back to the physiotherapist and the whole viscous cycle begins again.
This is not what you want or asked for!
3. To get rid of your back pain you need to deal with the problem. The problem in almost all cases of back pain is a shape problem with poor movement patterns over years. Essentially your spine has taken on a different shape that provides no biomechanical advantage anymore. Unhealthy living like sitting in front of a computer changes your spine.
4. Reshaping Your Lower Back Can Actually Be Easy (With the BR3-Method)
This is accomplished first with reshaping the back internally then focusing on reshaping the back externally then looking at injury specific exercises i.e. a disc heriation injury is different then a pelvic injury and requires different programs of repair
I love the fact that the program treats and recommends based on natural healthy lifestyle ideas rather than being dependent on pharmaceutical products.
Taking pain killers most often results in the taking of more medication and doesn’t really solve the problem.

There is actually not very much that I don’t like about the program.
Overall it is very well rounded and does a great job at identifying what the probelem is and what to do about it.
The problem with these types of programs is that there are sometimes more work to be done on the structure then you can find in program as well as much back pain has a lot to do with digestive issues and no one really disucsses how to fix that.

Western medicine has really just starting to acknowledge the health benefits of eating ginger whereas in Asia it has been used for centuries for many common ailments. Dr Leo Galland M.D. for the Huffington Post shared some great ways to incorporate ginger into your diet plan and included a great recipe for a delicious ginger curry.
Ginger Fights Inflammation Naturally
In research done over the past 30 years, science has found support for the anti-inflammatory properties of ginger, according to a review published in the Journal of Medicinal Food. The authors note that one early study compared the medicinal potential of ginger to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s). Common examples of NSAID’s include Advil, Motrin, Aleve and aspirin. It found that ginger, like the NSAID’s, inhibits the enzymes cyclooxygenase-1 and cyclooxygenase-2. (Cox 1 and 2). Further discoveries revealed that an extract of ginger (Zingiber officinale) inhibits several genes that contribute to inflammation.
The flavor of ginger is very unique and some love it their very first time, if you do not enjoy it right off don’t give up. Experiment by adding less next time or try a different recipe.

Studies Show Depression is Linked to Vitamin Deficiency
In one study, Australian researchers gave men aged 50-69 this supplement or a placebo for eight weeks. Using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS), researchers analyzed symptoms. If you have already begun switching to organic produce you may have noticed the size of your fruits and veggies is sometimes smaller and has a less waxy feeling than their larger “prettier” cousins in the non organic section. They may also spoil somewhat faster too. That’s perfectly natural, don’t let it concern you in any way.
A really great way to reduce the pesticides on the fruit is to wash the fruit in a water vinegar bath in the sink. The vinegar in the water helps bind to the pesticides and reduces your overall exposure.
Did you know that 40% of all injuries related to resistance training affect the shoulder, making it the number one cause of pain in the gym.
This is totally true. If I think back to all the patients I have had with shoulder pain, most of the time is started with some sort of resistance movement.
What I notice most often is the major problem as to why they have developed a should problem is because of the lack of warm up.
I am always surprised with how many people still in 2013 do absolutely no warm up before they begin exercise.
For the major joints like the hip and shoulder warming up those joints is really the difference between injury and no injury.
Whenever Rick and I are talking and discussing shoulder mechanics, Rick always comes back to this concept of proper warm up. When you ask him what he thinks a good warm up is, he always talks about the push up.
The push up is a whole body movement pattern which is a simple way to get the temperature up in the shoulder joint so when moved properly it can go through its full range of movement.
Here is a simple exercise everyone should be doing before they to their workout
Whenever I am presented with a patient and should pain their story is almost always the same.
They have been to the doctor.
The doctors has prescribed pain medication or anti inflammatories and they return 2-3 weeks later with no decrease in the pain.
The doctors sends them to a physiotherapist and the physio works on them a couple times a week for a month or two with no results or maybe a slight improvement.
Then they are back at the doctors office for a referral for a MRI which shows nothing and then it is on to the pain clinic for a cortisone injection which helps but months later the pain comes back.
This vicious cycle just continues until they look outside the box, which is why you are ready this you are looking for something different.
What I have found over the last 10 years that works really well with should pain is the combination of adjusting the neck, shoulder and mid back with a very specific exercise program.
The solution to this vicious cycle is to deal with the CAUSE of the problem and this is usually never done.
It seems like the obvious solution but almost no doctor or physiotherapist attempts to identify the root cause.

While strengthening is important, it needs to be done when the shoulder joint has been reshaped into a pain-free shoulder joint.
If you have not reshaped the shoulder joint into a pain-free joint, you are just adding more strength to a painful joint and making the problem worse.
In time this stress leads to repetitive shoulder injuries, increased shoulder joint damage and shoulder pain.
“Shoulder Reshaping 3-Part Method” or SR3-Method for short.
This is a system that Rick created based on research that he felt was important to help the shoulder heal properly and permanently.
This is not something typical that you would get from a physiotherapist this is you can only get through the SR3-Method that Rick created.
Rick has broken up dealing with should pain in 3 parts.
- First you need to reshape the joint. This is about putting the shoulder joint into the proper alignment.Rick discusses this in detail in the first video of the SR3-Method to fixing shoulder pain.
- The second part of the program deals with improving tissue quality so that the shoulder blade can sit better and glide easier over the shoulder complex.
- The third and last part of the SR3-Method is dealing with improving shoulder movement endurance through specific exercise. Shoulder strength and stability is all about being able to make effective movements for long periods of time and this the most critical part of getting rid of your shoulder pain.

I had no idea until Rick told me that almost 36% of all injuries are a result of injuring the knee.
This is most likely because over time we spend more time with our knee bent then straight and a straight knee is the preferred position.
There is also a problem with the proper diagnosis of knee pain.
Most health care practitioners don’t really have any idea on how to fix knee pain and try a whole bunch of different treatment modalities in hopes that one will work.
More on that viscous cycle later.
The real issue is dealing with the cause of the knee pain and not just with the pain. Most of the treatments for knee pain deal with doing things to help reduce the pain rather then actually looking at the cause of the knee pain.

This is exactly what I have found with my patients and knee pain that the knee joint and surrounding areas need to be reshaped.
If you don’t do that you get stuck in the viscious cycle of knee pain
What is really cool is that Rick has figured out a really easy way to reshape the knee joint.
He calls it the Knee Reshaping 3-Part Method or KR3-Method for short.
The KR3-Method involves three different parts.
First he has developed a plan for first internally reshaping the joint.
Then the second part involves building on the internal shaping and going through a process of externally reshaping the outside of the joint.
Then once the internal and external environment of the knee has been reshaped, you begin with a VERY SPECIFIC set of exercises to fix the injured knee.
There are certainly a set of exercises that should be done for most knee injuries, but 40% of the time you need to focus on specific injuries for your type of knee condition and that is what Rick excels at.

There’s a new reason to eat eggs for breakfast…New research has discovered how you can lower your blood pressure with this breakfast superfood.
Researchers from Clemson University just presented their findings at the annual American Chemical Society meeting in New Orleans.
“Our research suggests that there may be another reason to call it ‘the incredible, edible egg,’” said study leader Dr. Zhipeng Yu. “We have evidence from the laboratory that a substance in egg white — it’s a peptide, one of the building blocks of proteins — reduces blood pressure about as much as a low dose of Captopril, a high-blood-pressure drug.”

It’s only recently that studies have started to show the nutritional benefits of eggs. They’re a great source of protein. And they are low in saturated fat making them an ideal food choice. The yolk contains all the cholesterol. But it also packs lots of great nutrients such as zinc, iron, and vitamins A and D.4

Always buy organic, free-range eggs. Now lowering your blood pressure can be delicious and healthy. We can’t say the same about blood pressure medication.
The son of cooking star Paula Deen whose southern roots came with lots of high fat, high sugar recipes has transformed a lot of those favorites into heart healthy versions. MensFitness.com shared this simple and delicious egg white omelette recipe from Bobby Deen.
- 4 tsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 10-oz. package frozen chopped spinach, thawed (with all excess water squeezed out)
- 4 plum tomatoes, finely chopped (about 1 1/2 cups)
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 12 egg whites
- 2 tbsp. water
- Nonstick cooking spray
1. In small skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the onion and a pinch salt; cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until onion is softened.
2. Add the spinach; cook and stir until hot.
3. Add the tomatoes, pepper to taste, and another pinch salt; cook and stir for 1 minute. Remove from heat; cover and keep warm.
4. In a medium bowl, whisk the egg whites, water, and a pinch salt until frothy.
5. Lightly coat a medium nonstick skillet or omelet pan with cooking spray; heat skillet over medium heat. Add one-fourth of the egg whites, swirling to evenly cover the bottom of the pan. Cook for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes or until set, using a rubber scraper to lift eggs up occasionally, letting runny egg flow underneath.
6. Spoon one-fourth of the spinach mixture onto half of omelet, fold over, and slide onto a plate. Repeat with remaining egg whites and spinach mixture.
Not only are eggs packed with nutritional value they are relatively inexpensive to buy and they can be cooked with all kinds of other healthy vegetables and meats to provide a balanced meal any time of the day. If egg white proteins lower blood pressure as the studies indicate I will be enjoying these delicate little treasures a lot more often.
